Assynt and Far North

The munros here are widely separated and surrounded by many good quality corbets and other hills such as Foinaven and Arkle which should not be dismissed. This is an area of many lochs, quiet single track roads and vast open spaces with very few trees. It is a good area for cycling as well. The grassy Ben Klibreck in the east is very different from the rocky expanses of Inchnadamph in the west. These hills are far enough North to enable a glimpse of the Orkneys on a good day. The separation is such that usually they are climbed on separate day outings except for Conival and Ben More Assynt which can be combined into a fine day. Look out for the limestone features in the Assynt area with classic caves and disappearing rivers. This is a centre of speleological activity in Scotland and dramatic limestone cliffs.
