Beinn Ghlas is the first Munro on the main Lawers Ridge, a collection of 5 Munros in all. This is main access route to Ben Lawers and for this reason there is a horrendously over-erored path up its south western ridge. Beinn Ghlas is quite high in its own right (3618ft) but standing next to Ben Lawers it feels dwarfed. Continuation onto Beinn Ghlas’s North Eastern ridge will take you to Ben Lawers.

Most people climbing Ben Lawers do no even realise they have climbed Beinn Ghlas in the process.

The route starts at the NTS Lawers visitor centre where there is ample parking. To avoid re-summiting Beinn Ghlas on the descent a path takes you from the lowest point on the Beinn Ghlas – Ben Lawers col to Coire Odhair below.

Even our 5yr old managed this his first Munro. It's easy to follow the track and there's a few little summits to aim at en route. Great views to reward us too and we were all grateful for the donkey track down in the shade. Next time it's Ben Lawers for sure.
