Meall Nan Tarmachan is regarded by many as the jewel of the Lawers region; we may possibly have to agree! It is definitely not the highest in the area but it more than makes up for this with some superb features. Although there is only one Munro Meall Nan Tarmachan the ridge is made up of 4 peaks know as “The Tarmachans”. A walk along the Tarmachan ridge is one of Scotland’s best walks. The main Tarmachan ridge runs NE - SW with some fantastic scrambling opportunities throughout.
The other great feature about Meall Nan Tarmachan is the lack of crowds. They all flock to the easily accessible Ben Lawers leaving Meall Nan Tarmachan for only the few…fantastic!
There is parking available to the south west of Lochan na Lairige which is where most people start the route. It will be a strenuous climb from the word go so be prepared.
Meall Nan Tarmachan can be enjoyed all year round but saving this one for a fine winter’s day will guarantee a fantastic day out and one of the more memorable Munros!
