Sgurr a Mhadaidh sits around about the middle of the Cuillin ridge and is connected by a high col to its nearest neighbouring Munro Sgurr a Ghreadaidh. The hill is bitten into on its western side by Core a Ghreadaidh which is the normal access point to the hill. A path leads up to An Dorus or "The Door" which allows you access to the south ridge. There are 3 main summit ridges. The NW ridge leads down to Glen Brittle on the rim of Core a Ghreadaidh. This ridge has steep scree slopes to the north and south and great care should be taken if being used. The NE ridge takes you on a long airy walk along the main Cuillin ridge to the Munro Bruach na Frithe. Finally the S ridge leads to as mentioned before to a high col called An Dorus before climbing the summit ridge of Sgurr a Ghreadaidh.
From the summit there are superb views to be had S right down the length of the magical Loch Coruisk deep in the heart of the Cuillins and further out to sea at the south tip of Skye at Elgol. To the north there is good views to the 3 Munros that make up the north section of the Cuillin Ridge.
