Stob Ghabhar - DESCRIPTION

Stob Ghabhar forms part of what is known as the Black Mount a prominent view to anyone driving on the A82 through Rannoch Moor. The usual climb for most will involve climbing Stob Ghabhar and Stob a' Choire Odhair in a round route starting at Victoria Bridge near Loch Tulla. There is no reason however why you can’t tackle the whole Blackmount (4 Munros in total) in one day if you have access to 2 vehicles. One of the best features of Stob Ghabhar is the summit ridge known as the “Aonach Eagach” not to be confused with the infamous Aonach Eagach Ridge 10 miles or so north in Glencoe. This is superb little ridge skirts round Coire Dhearbhadh at 900+ metres offering fantastic views down to the lochan Coirein Lochain below. The summit of Stob Ghabhar connects up 3 main ridges one of which runs to the other Munro Stob a' Choire Odhair.

Stob Ghabhar should provide every walker a memorable day on the hills and a favourite within this region.

Used the bike to get just passed Clashgour wee hut.Saves a bit of walking. Followed the path right up to the col between Ghabhar and Odhair. Spotted a tent right up near the col. Fantastic camping place must bring a tent up her myself. Crossed to Coirein Lochain. Very scenic with the exit burn flowing over a slabby cascade. Found an easy grassy ramp on to Sron nan Giubhas then a flat grassy stroll on the high plateau where I was attacked by killer crane flies! Descended Aonach Eagach ridge cutting right to the big waterfall. Great day.
