The Cairnwell is part of a group of 3 Munros which surround the Glenshee ski developement. They are normally access by the large ski centre car park sitting at 2000ft. With this high starting point makes them arguably the easiest Munros in Scotland. There are other routes that avoid the ski developments as best they can but due to the fact they are also not the most exciting hills in the world this is by far the most common starting point.
The Cairnwell itself sits on the south edge of the Ski Centre with its north slopes forming the south sides of the deep corrie where they ski. The southern slopes of the mountain are quite steep and rocky giving it a bit of character. There are easy paths leading from the Ski centre, which summit The Cairnwell via its NW ridge.
Even when combining The Cairnwell with the 2 other Munros in the route it should still take no longer than around 4 hours to complete.
